MYSORE DUSSEHRA - MYSORE

An important Hindu festival celebrated in many parts of the country. As per hindu mythology, it marks the defeat of great demon king of Lanka, Ravana by Lord Rama (eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu). It also symbolizes the triumph of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon, Mahishasura. The exact date of the festival depends on the Hindu calendar, but it generally comes in mid October-Beginning December.

In the South India, this festival is celebrated for ten days with great pomp and glamour in city of Mysore, Karnataka, where it is popularly knows as Mysore Dussehra.  On the tenth day, a colorful procession of decorated elephants and other floats originate from the Mysore palace grounds.  The festival is celebrated in a grand style with cultural performances in the Durbar Hall of the Palace.  To celebrate this festival, the palace is illuminated with more than 10,000 lights.  Locals and tourists from all over the world gather to watch this colorful celebration in Mysore.
